Tianfu District Central Park, Chengdu, China

Given the central park location of Chengdu new development district of Tianfu, the clients asked for a fresh way of approaching the design and development of a park, to combine commerce, recreation and cultural element together within a green pocket of space between high density communities and to take advantage of the bus depot to be integrated into the park.

2 main options were provided. Option 1 where the whole park is sloped and undulating to enable skiing and recreational pursuits to be conducted in winter and walking while walking, sitting and enjoying grass skiing, performances and retail shopfront dining onto the park would prevail in summer with an interplay of activities in spring and autumn. For Option 2, a more serious tone where an old Chinese village is preserved and moved over to integrate into the lower levels of the park against the backdrop of a magnificent waterfall provided by the level difference with the adjacent water body. Both options were daring and completely diverse in its approach, either very forward looking or very historic.

Sand Diego & Karawang Valley, Jakarta Indonesia

The client was highly inspired by the simplicity of the Forest Lawn memorial concept in Los Angeles and wanted to re-create one just 45  minutes away from Jakarta city centre. After successive planning proposals, the 500Ha development  comprises a commercial hub, light industry, thematic cemetery and residential area known as San  Diego and Karawang Valley.

The concept of the memorial was simple, to ensure that all tombstones are flat on the ground so as to keep the vistas free and exist as a rolling field of green, to make the Chapel become a welcoming weekend place for families and weddings. Indeed, it became a lovely green space to welcome all types of religions into this multi-religion heritage and burial site.

This development will add about 1,000 new homes to the vicinity,  shophouses, and commercial tenants to animate and magnify the burgeoning growth of other  communities springing up in that region. The project was launched in November 2005.

'Pearl  Passage’,  ‘Emerald  Harbour’, Johor Bahru City, Malaysia

With the relocation of the JB CIQ, the Johor Mentri Besar under the leadership of Dr Mahatir  Mohamad at its helm held a vision to pedestrianize Jln Wong Ah Fook to rejuvenate and clean up  the image of the city. Our clients became the catalyst to execute this program in parts and sought  to have a comprehensive 20 year masterplan that would link up with the whole seafront to the east  of the causeway. By coming up with a historical lifestyle concept to captivate, tourists and locals  alike will enjoy the “Uptown”, “Mid-town” and “Downtown” concept which takes reference from Tun  Abdul Razak. Indoor and outdoor spaces, walkways, covered ways, esplanades, hotels, museums,  office towers and condominiums unite the whole composition of the Pearl Passage.
